BRIDGEWATER — Bridgewater has become the newest town in a slew of Massachusetts municipalities considering banning the sale of 50 ml alcohol nips. While some town council members say the ban would reduce littering of nip bottles, some liquor store owners say it won't help the problem and will hurt their businesses. An amendment to the town's current law written by Precinct 7 Councilor Frank Sousa and Councilor-at-Large Dennis Gallagher was put forth for consideration at a Town Council Rules and Procedures subcommittee meeting last Tuesday night. The amendment would ban the sale of 50 ml nips within the town of Bridgewater until such a time when the Massachusetts Legislature enacts a return deposit on nip bottles.
