But first, overall, theres certainly a lot of green on the screen this morning to start your week. We have dow futures up, not a lot but up about 50 points right now. Nasdaq, technology is what you might want to watch because actually kind of quietly, dont tell anybody, the nasdaq coming off its best Weekly Performance in a couple of months. And on friday, the s p 500 came within 1 point of its alltime high certainly could get there today. Bonds, stocks have gone up, bonds have come down a little bit but not a lot. Tenyear note ticking up a bit to 1. 83. Still well lower than what it began the year watching bonds and stocks today. We have been talking a lot on this show, you have to watch japan because the nikkei 225 hits yet another gain and a new 52week high today well show you a chart later on in the show the Chinese Markets are also higher despite the 21st straight weekend of protests in hong kong the markets there dont care obviously the Chinese Government perhaps supporting their equity markets and shanghai and hong kong, both rising. 8 of 1 and notice the trend in europe, we have slight gains across the board as well. It flipped i stand corrected. How about this, the German Market is showing a gain this morning. The rest theyre down very, very fractionally. All right, that right there my friends is the setup things could certainly change on an earnings dime because this week is a big week for many reasons. First, you might have heard about these earnings well, this is the busiest week for them more than 140 s p 500 companies will release their numbers 6 dow names also on tap this week but its not just earnings the economy and central bankers also front and center. Wednesday is your fed meeting. The fed could cut Interest Rates again as well as continue to expand their Balance Sheet now on friday, you have the monthly jobs number. Though keep this in mind, im not trying to take anything away from it, but the gmstrike figures are likely to alter those numbers. A lot of people out of the work force from the uaw for the month, that could tweak the numbers just a bit either way, earnings, the fed, jobs number and some key inflation and manufacturing data toward the end of the week, thats your setup. All right. Then theres trade news. The u. S. And china appear, appear to be moving closer to a phase one deal chinas price premier spoke with u. S. Trade rep Robert Lighthizer and Steven Mnuchin on friday reports from chinesestate run media and the american side both suggesting some progress deputylevel talks are set to continue all right, with all of that in mind, joining us now with your setup and maybe how well end the year, ubs Wealth Management jeff yu thank you for joining us from london. Good morning. I should have probably thrown in the continued brexit negotiations into that mix i mean, but literally run out of time if we did that. To your markets and ubs, what is more important for Global Equities is it the trade deal or how brexit ultimately plays out . Absolutely the trade deal so, that impacts globally. A lot of the, quote unquote, good news or the stable news we can get from brexit, thats already in the price were bit of a Holding Pattern right now and markets are just focussed on when we can get an election thats our base case, election and then we can figure out what happens to brexit after that but in terms of global performance, what were telling our clients, absolutely focussed on trade. Okay. What happens if the trade deal goes south, both sides walk away without a deal i think that would be the biggest risk to Market Performance at this point and our location is not calling for both sides walking away. Its just were a bit more muted on the potential for something very comprehensive this is a phase 1 deal, even if its signed, all tariffs are removed, doesnt mean we can go to a phase 2 deal very, very quickly. Its just no escalation and you know that should be enough to keep things ticking along, but we have been here before theres a chance of things falling apart and just want to be a bit more on the defensive side especially heading into year end. Do you believe then, geoff, the u. S. Markets in particular have already priced in a successful resolution to trade . I think not only that, its just a nonnegative resolution to trade in the shorter term and also heading into next year on a forwardlooking basis, we just caution whether theres any more good news to price in for earnings were looking at 5 earnings on growth and for next year nothing spectacular, probably going to outperform a lot of other markets especially europe, thats why were overweight u. S. Relative to europe at this point we own some protection rather than own outright growth. Youre more optimistic about the United States stock market than the european stock markets. How much of that, if at all, geoff, has to do with federal cutting rates . Everything is relative and clearly the Federal Reserve will have much more fire power compared to what europe can achieve. Europe we have this issue of the handover people are still trying to assess what the lagarde ecb president going to be about monetary or fiscal, she was a former finance minister afterall if we want to focus on Monetary Policy and its positive contribution to equity markets, clearly the u. S. Is much more credibility, has a lot more room to go. Geoff yu, ubs from london a great pleasure and have a great day and great week and see you soon. Thank you. Now to your top corporate story and what was an announcement really nothing short of stunning. Microsoft beating out amazon in the competition for a multibillion dollar cloud competing contract from the pentagon Contessa Brewer here this morning and joins us more with more on this good morning. Hi there, brian the pentagon awarded a lucrative contract known as jedi to microsoft. Amazon had long been considered the favorite for the deal which could be worth 10 billion bucks over ten years more than 5,000 Government Agencies use amazon web services, which is certified as the highest security clearance level, but the victory highlights the rise of microsofts azure cloud as a major challenger to aws. Azure scored another multibillion dollar government contract in august and also a huge win for microsoft ceo who used to run the Cloud Business in a statement friday, microsoft, says, were proud were an integral partner in d. O. D. s Overall MissionCloud Strategy amazon saying, quote, were surprised about this conclusion. Aws is the clear leader in Cloud Computing and a detailed assessment purely on the comparative offerings clearly lead to a different conclusion the bidding process had been contentious. In july President Trump said he was looking at the contract after companies had protested. The president did not mention amazon Ceo Jeff Bezos by name but repeat lid criticized amazon over taxes and other issues and, of course, doesnt like the washington post, which belongs in that portfolio. Forces on isis leader abu backer albaghdadi President Trump announcing yesterday that albaghdadi was killed in an operation in syria. He killed himself and three of his children with a suicide bomb vest we have team coverage. Hadley gamble in dubai tracie potts in washington hadley, let us begin with you as more details continue to come out on this stunning raid. Absolutely, brian this is a story, of course, that ive been covering quite closely over the last several years. The president essentially saying that isis leader Abu Bakr Albaghdadi died, quote, like a dog, whimpering, crying and screaming according to President Trump from his press conference yesterday. Now, just to give you a quick few details on what we know at least so far about this raid, essentially, u. S. Special forces moved in to Northern Syria around 5 00 p. M. On saturday and they tracked abu backer albaghdadi into a tunnel where he detonated a suicide vest that killed hm along with three of his children the president in his press Conference Also noting that other countries were instrumental in making this raid possible, russia, syria, turkey as well as the kurds were thanked in that press conference and later members of the russian government coming out and saying we werent aware that something was happening in Northern Syria that was involving the United States so a lot of questions about this concerning the International Community and how much support there was for this raid, but at the same time, folks here in this region talking about what this actually means for the Islamic State itself now again and again, we heard the president say that the Islamic State is no longer a viable terrorist entity that the caliphate has been defeated, but we know very well from our reporting and nbcs reporting among others that there still remains cells of the Islamic State and the big question Going Forward is how effective theyre going to continue to be as a result of the loss of their leader brian . Well, i wonder, hadley, listen, the president took a lot of heat the last couple weeks over this seemingly flipflopped policy in turkey with syria and one wonders how much of that move and sort of that change that was widely criticized had to do with u. S. Intelligence about this raid upcoming absolutely. I think its going
