A cold front bringing a polar blast of air has sent temperatures plummeting in parts of southeastern Australia, with residents also bracing for heavy showers, hail and snow. The front moved in over Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia on Tuesday morning, with temperatures in Melbourne falling from a peak of 19C at 10:30am to 13C less than 90 minutes later. The temperature in the city is expected to drop even further in the afternoon as cold, gusty winds associated with the front move in. The expected low of 9C in Melbourne will feel more like 4C thanks to the chilly winds, Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Jonathon How said.
