Travellers might soon be able to test their level of Covid-19 immunity before boarding a plane. A rapid test is being developed by New Zealand-based immunity-detection company Orbis Diagnostics and French security company IDEMIA. It could be rolled out in New Zealand and Australian airports by the middle of the year. “Accurately testing whether a traveller is immune to Covid-19 will determine whether they are safe to enter their country of destination without quarantining, and without fear of infecting others, or being infected themselves,” said Orbis Diagnostics chief executive Brent Ogilvie. “Now that the world readies itself to deploy the first-generation Covid-19 vaccines, we expect immunity screening to become a crucial element of the complete solution supporting the safe resumption of international travel,” added Xavier Assouad, IDEMIA’s managing director of Oceania.
