the biggest bank in the country declared it will tax on a new fee, $60 a year just to use your debit card. now bank of america plans to roll out this new fee beginning early next year. it will apply to only those who are using their debit card for purchases, not for atm uses. also, you can get that fee waved if you upgrade to their premium account which requires that you have a higher minimum monthly balance in their account. other people are saying they're going to switch, go to credit unions or community banks which often offer free banking. the question is -- does industry, bank of america, the leader of them all, does industry follow them. pnc, citibank, u.s. bank said they will hold the line. jpmorgan chase jumping in. jpmorgan chase doing a test trial of a $3 debit fee charge. others like suntrust from atlanta are already using the $5 fees.
