afternoon. kendis and reena, back to you. >> our thanks to you, molly. no letup from the scorching heat in the west either. the fire danger is very high. crews are fighting 21 major fires in six states. the heat is spreading into the normally mild northwest as well. and red flag warnings are up even in alaska. here's abc's kayna whitworth. >> reporter: fires across the hot bone dry wet west are growing in size and number. at least three large fires in california, the biggest the lake fire scorching more than 17,000 acres of the san bernardino national forest. 21% contained, crews trying to keep the upper hand. >> trees are week and ready to come down. even if they look green they are ready to come down. >> reporter: 21 fires are raging across six states. in arizona, at least seven blazes in that state. and alaska seeing the worst of it. more than 3,000 firefighters fighting 13 large fires, 350 square miles already burned, an area the size of fort worth, texas.
