ben, here's what always strikes me about cpac and strikes me as much this year. i think after the shutdown and after the budget and all these fights we've had, there's this narrative that the tea party has been do nemesticatedomesticated rendered less powerful. it strikes me how much power the base still has over the party. you just do not see these level of politicians coming to kind of get the blessing of the left base. i wish, gosh, we lived in that world, but we don't. it seems to me it still is the case the base really has a grip on the party. >> well, the base certainly does have a grip on the party. you think of what chris christie was rolling out there today. he wasn't talking about guns. he wasn't talking about his support for obamacare's medicaid expansion. he was talking about red meat. the same principles i think lead to come out on stage with a musket if you're viewed as an establishment candidate. something along those lines. i think one of the things that is interesting about cpac this year is maybe a little more openness of the divides within the party.
