to write a complaint. they may confide in a colleague or tell a senior employee who they trust. they may feel afraid to report this at all because of retaliation. even though we are in the year 2018 there is still very valid concerns and reasons why people didn't want to participate in the story or go on the record. some of these women who went on the record were months long conversations in order to get them to that point where they felt comfortable speaking out. >> you have these conversations over a period of time. it wasn't snap your fingers and respond to these voice mails and people come out and spoke. >> absolutely. in some cases we were asking women to relive very traumatic experiences that happened in the 1970s and 1980s, experiences that happened very recently. some women are current cbs news employees who were really fearful of speaking out. i think there is a level of trust that has to be developed between the reporter and the women in order to know we would tell the story in a very responsible and fair way to all
