Athens Banner-Herald The life and work of David C. Driskell, one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of African-American art, will be celebrated with a special exhibit at Morgan County's Steffen Thomas Museum of Art beginning Feb. 11 and continuing through April 17. “Celebrating Creative Genius: The Art, Life and Legacy of Eatonton, Georgia native David Driskell“ will feature paintings, collages, and prints by Driskell, who passed away in April 2020 at age 88. “We don't go around saying 'white art', but I think it's very important for us to keep saying 'Black art' until it becomes recognized as American art,” Driskell told the New York Times in a 1977 article, when he served as curator for an exhibit in the Brooklyn Museum.
