On March 26, 2021, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) – which enforces federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination – filed a lawsuit that claimed a School District in New York violated federal law by paying lower wages to a female superintendent than to a male superintendent performing the same work. According to the EEOC’s lawsuit filed against the Hunter-Tannersville Central School District in New York, Dr. Susan Vickers had over 26 years of work experience in education and educational leadership, as well as a doctorate in education. Still, the school district paid her less in salary and benefits than her male predecessor.
