RLT_Images The highly infectious Delta Covid-19 variant continues to wreak havoc globally and has been detected in more than 85 countries, including South Africa. While Delta continues to spread, a mutation (sub-lineage) of this variant, known as "Delta Plus", has emerged. Delta Plus, also called B.1.617.2.1 or AY.1, was first found in India in April 2021 and has since been detected in other countries including the UK, US, Switzerland, Japan, Russia, and China. Reporting by CNN notes that more than 200 cases of Delta Plus have been reported in 11 countries, and that the Indian government submitted the variant to the Global Data System and sent samples for genomic testing.
