David Wheeler’s article, “Coming of age in a dangerous time and place” (Daily Messenger, May 21), I was eager to read William Winship’s book, “The Canandaigua Letters: A Memoir of the Late ‘60s.” In this memoir about Winship’s military and civilian experiences during the late 1960s and early 1970s, it is obvious that Winship put his heart and soul into writing this book — which is written in a manner that is riveting, engaging, colorful, insightful, at times highly dramatic, at other times lighthearted and funny.
