The National Hurricane Center in Miami has released their final complete and comprehensive report on Hurricane Laura, a category 4 storm which made landfall on August 27th, 2020 at Cameron, Louisiana and carved a path of destruction on both the Louisiana and Texas side of the Sabine River. The key elements of the report gave an official death toll of 47 people, most of which occurred in the Hispaniola Island chain. The report said Laura caused 4 deaths in Louisiana and 3 deaths in Texas. The Louisiana deaths occurred in Acadia, Allen, Jackson, and Vernon Parishes, all of which were due to falling trees, and 1 death was recorded in Sabine County in Texas, also from a falling tree. Additionally, 2 more deaths on the Texas Gulf Coast were attributed to surf-related drownings.
