A brush fire broke out near Hemet this afternoon, charring 122 acres and spurring a multi-agency response before the forward rate of progress was stopped.
The Riverside County Fire Department reported that the fire had damaged several power lines, causing 2,000 to 3,000 Southern California Edison customers to lose power in East Hemet. By 5:30 p.m., power had been restored to all but about 150 residents east of Warren Road.
"Edison crews work to make repairs," the department wrote on Twitter.
The blaze, dubbed the Stowe Fire, sparked for unknown reasons about 3 p.m. in the area of California and Lyn avenues and had charred 105 acres by 5 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
