The U.K. variant B.1.1.7 makes up 87% of the COVID variant cases statewide. Two separate variants out of California, B.1.429 and B.1.427, make up nearly 8% of variant cases. The P.1 variant, which originated in Brazil, makes up 4% of the variant cases. B.1.351, which was first identified in South Africa, makes up .5% of cases. There is one case of P.1.1, which is not listed on the CDC website as a known variant. According to the state data, 208, or 2%, of Floridians diagnosed with a variant strain of the virus have been hospitalized. A total of 57 people infected with a COVID-19 variant have died. Of those, 55 were infected with the B.1.1.7 variant, according to the data, and two had the P.1 variant.
