Current and former Wisconsin student-athletes are reacting to the news of Barry’s retirement on social media. Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson wrote on Twitter that his dad told him when he was young that he should play for Barry Alvarez, and he did. Former Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun also congratulated Alvarez on his retirement. Wisconsinite and former Badger men’s basketball Sam Dekker said that Coach Alvarez “created a culture for excellence that will last for generations.”
