HOLDEN — Robert V. Mulkern Sr. found a source of inspiration and a father figure in President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Joanna Mulkern, one of his two daughters, said her father's family would often gather to listen to FDR's speeches, which later formed his Mulkern's conception of government. “They used to listen to his speeches and FDR did a lot in bringing the country during hard times to feel like they could pull through together,” Joanna Mulkern said, "A lot of the social programs that came out of FDR's administration formed his ideals on a very human level and a societal level."
