Santa Barbara is full of ownership opportunities, albeit expensive. In contrast, we need rental units, which are the focus of state legislation applied here and elsewhere. ADUs address rental housing needs in Santa Barbara, not homeownership as the commentary suggests.

I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you who wrote to the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Trustees and spoke on the Thoreau Community School’s behalf on Feb. 23. From the number of attendees at the board meeting alone, we know that the Santa Barbara community is eager for our school.
