Gardner-Webb hosts vaccination clinic More than 800 people were able to get their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday at Gardner-Webb University. The college hosted a vaccination clinic for students and community members this week, putting shots in the arms of 809 people, 350 of which were students. "It's a good day for us, for our community," said William Downs, Gardner-Webb president. Gardner-Webb announced its intention to return to a pre-COVID environment as much as possible next school year. Getting students vaccinated, Downs said, is "indispensable for that vision." "We've got to attack this thing aggressively. If we simply waited until July or August as we were poised to open the doors, it would be too late. We've got to turn the corner right now. This is the day to make that happen," he said.
