Its interesting to see sir Keir Starmers shifting position on the israel gaza conflict because it was only at the start of this month that sir keir starmer went on National Radio to say that israel had the right to say that israel had the right to cut off food, water and electricity supplies to the gaza strip. There was huge constant after that within his party and he subsequently rowed back from that position, saying that he never held that position in the first place, despite there being video and audio evidence that he did. But perhaps more pertinently, in the last few days, there has been internal pressure coming from 150 labour muslim councillors allegedly coming from within the shadow cabinet as well, with reported threats to resign coming second handin threats to resign coming second hand in some news organisations and this has led to a statement put out by sir keir starmer last night on his twitter feed saying that much more aid needs to go into the gaza strip, talking a lot about what more help must be done towards the Palestinian People in the gaza strip, although strangely , that although strangely, that statement, that new statement that came out yesterday didnt mention hamas and didnt condemn her mass either. But that aside, tom, as you look at the latest polling, i mean, this election , polling, i mean, this election, whenever it happens, is his to lose, isnt it . It certainly is 49. These are numbers that tony blair was enjoying in 1997. And the tories down on 21. That is a huge, huge low. These were numbers that we were seeing at the nadir of the liz truss administration. Now liz truss administration. Now that 21 is a little bit out of line with some other polls, but clearly it is showing that the tories are not finding pockets of support. In fact, if we look at the north, the conservatives are doing historically badly within the data of this poll and drilling down further actually , drilling down further actually, the labour party is soaring high in scotland this poll has the has the snp below the labour party now in scotland . Yes, its just a subsample of the overall sample, but it is an indication that the labour party is recovering strongly in scotland, but also is taking across the United Kingdom a huge number of people who havent previously been voting labour. A third of people who voted leave in 2016 are now backing the labour party. Thats and only around 40 of people who voted leave are backing the conservative party. Meanwhile around 60 of people who voted remain are backing the labour party. They seem to have a much broader spread of these two groups, whereas the conservative party has slipped back amongst both leavers and remainers, but signifying recently no longer a majority of people who voted leave are backing the conservative party and the labour party seems to have ameliorated its brand when it comes to people who previously werent voting labour, they might now feel that its slightly safer to do so.
