Giants spring training observations: Wade Jr. gets start in center, Dubón at short - how they fared FacebookTwitterEmail Mauricio Dubón at shortstop.Carlos Avila Gonzalez / The Chronicle SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — When the Giants acquired LaMonte Wade Jr., they touted him primarily as a corner outfielder. On Sunday, in the team’s Cactus League opener, Wade was in center field, with incumbent center fielder Mauricio Dubón starting at shortstop. Could the two wind up in some sort of platoon situation? Wade is a left-handed hitter, Dubón right-handed and also probably the best backup-shortstop option for Brandon Crawford. At the very least, the Giants prudently want to get a long look at Wade’s skills in center, where he made three plays without any trouble.
