Print Mayor Todd Gloria spent Thursday morning of last week witnessing how asylum seekers from the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” program are being processed into San Diego. It’s part of what the city’s new mayor says is an effort to position himself to be a voice of authority on border issues. In some ways, that follows the tradition of San Diego mayors to advocate with their counterparts to the south, especially on economic topics, in both Washington and Mexico City. In others ways, Gloria is taking a new path, particularly in regards to asylum and immigration.
