Governor Gina Raimondo PHOTO: GoLocal Tuesday will be Gina Raimondo’s last day as Governor of the State of Rhode Island —unless something dramatically changes in the United States Senate. On Monday afternoon, Texas Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz’s effort to block Raimondo’s confirmation came to an end. The Senate voted 84-15 to end debate and allow the Senate to vote. The expected vote on Raimondo — scheduled for after 2:00 PM on Tuesday — will end Raimondo’s dominance over Rhode Island politics over the past decade. During Raimondo's dominance, she was elected as General Treasurer in 2010 and took office in 2011. During her period of political leadership she saw the rise of four Speakers of the House -- Bill Murphy, Gordon Fox, Nick Mattiello and now Joe Shekarchi.
