In past years I have expressed disagreement with the notion of having a separate yearly category labeled as Black History Month based upon the following:  It is an insult to American accomplishment and it insinuates an unequal categorization to other American classifications such as white European, Asian, Jewish, Hispanic, women in general, etc. The separation also alleviates any urgency for society to promote/remember black contributions throughout the calendar year if there is a single appropriated month. After all, black American history IS American history. If one large book were all that could be published on American History, noted accomplishments by those in the black community have to be included for a complete record. We shouldnât forget that.
