House votes to cancel Trump’s ‘national emergency’ on the border; Sen. Rob Portman undecided on issue Sabrina Eaton, cleveland.comFebruary 27, 2019 GMT House votes to cancel Trump’s ‘national emergency’ on the border; Sen. Rob Portman undecided on issue WASHINGTON, D. C. - In an unprecedented rebuke of a chief executive, the U.S. House of Representatives voted largely along party lines Tuesday to override President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency along the nation’s southern border. All Democrats in the House of Representatives joined with thirteen Republicans to pass the measure by a 245 to 182 margin - far short of the number that would be required to override a likely presidential veto. None of Ohio’s Republicans supported the effort.
