to leave their homes. very disturbing stories coming out of abdijaya, sanjay. >> it sounds just awful to watch. arwa, you can see from the images there, but what is morale overall from the people you've been talking to? do they have any confidence that gadhafi and his forces can be defeated? >> reporter: they're living out there, there's very little water, there's no electricity. the conditions are visibly very difficult. they're relying on handouts being brought down by volunteers from benghazi. yet all of these families who we met are refusing to leave for one simple reason and that is because every single night when they go to sleep by their fires, they wake up believing the next morning that somehow the opposition will have defeated gadhafi's forces, that abdijaya is going to be safe, and that they will be able to go back home. you see the children running around, still flashing the victory sign, still laughing.
