so you gather a crowd by texting people. typing and sending them very short messages using the readout screen on a cell phone or a pager with a tiny keyboard. it's cheaper than a call, can be used to reach many people at once and it's sweeping the globe. >> you're talking about being able to access somebody no matter where they are, no matter what time of the day it is, no matter whether they're at work, whether they're at home, whether they're walking down the street. >> reporter: jeff neumann has a website that uses this technology. american airlines has begun using it texting passengers if their flights are delayed. it was used to appeal for blood donations in india after january's earthquake, and it really did help oust the philippine president. they called it the text messaging revolution. it's also the rage among the world's teenagers. in britain 77% of teens own cell phones. but they're texting on them, not talking. >> texting is driving it
