The Pac-12 finally loses a game in this NCAA Tournament, but it should not overshadow what Washington State accomplished. After losing most of the key contributors from a season ago, the Cougars reloaded with, among others, transfers from Idaho (Isaac Jones) and Division II Sonoma State (Jaylen Wells), along with some freshmen and a JUCO import. And they finished second in the Pac-12 while sweeping Arizona. They made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008 and collected just the fifth NCAA Tournament win in school history. All while the league collapsed around them and forced them to scramble to the WCC next year.Now the attention turns to coach Kyle Smith's future. He is considered a strong candidate at Stanford, would make sense at Vanderbilt and has to be considered at Washington, among others. It would be hard to blame him for leaving when his program is basically going back down to the mid-major level. If his time on the Palouse is over, he certainly delivered results.
