Sears, American retailer of general merchandise, tools, home appliances, clothing, and automotive parts and services. Until the 1980s it was the largest retailer in the United States. Sears is a subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation, which, following a bankruptcy auction, was purchased by a hedge fund in 2019.
