The head of the local Florida Department of Health office said Thursday she is concerned by a recent uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases in Brevard County. Maria Stahl, administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Brevard, said, over the past two weeks, there generally has been 100 to 150 new COVID-19 cases a day reported in Brevard, up from 75 to 100 cases a day in the weeks prior to that. Additionally, Stahl said, the percentage of newly reported COVID-19 tests that are positive for the coronavirus now range between 6% and 7% of all tests, up from 5% to 6% previously. "There is a little bit of a concern now" because of those trends, Stahl said during the county's latest biweekly Facebook Live briefing on COVID-19.
