I was called ‘deliberately barren’: Julia Gillard on the challenges women face in leadership roles

Julia Gillard, a former lawyer, served as the Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Labor Party from 2010 to 2013. She is the first and only woman to hold the positions of Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister and leader of a major party in Australia. But her stint in politics -- she resigned from active politics in 2013 -- was anything but easy. In her new book ‘Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons’, which she has co-authored with former Nigerian finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, she brings out the challenges women continue to face in top positions. Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian-born economist and international development expert, sits on the board of top-notch corporates like Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, and the African Risk Capacity.
