ELLISVILLE — Learning about civil rights is much easier than living it, Jones College President Jesse Smith told students Monday during a Charles Pickering Honors Institute panel discussion in the Fine Arts auditorium. The discussion focused on racial discrimination in education in the early 1960s in Mississippi and how it impacts students today. "Those were some of the most horrific times," Smith said. "None of you as students will ever know what that was like." He challenged students to put themselves in the shoes of others and try to see the world through their eyes and appreciate what their predecessors accomplished.
