Kentucky educator named R.I. postsecondary education commissioner

Incoming Rhode Island Postsecondary Education Commissioner Shannon Gilkey
PROVIDENCE – Shannon Gilkey, a Kentucky educator who currently oversees career and technical programs, workforce training, and professional development and innovation for 16 colleges in that state, was named Rhode Island’s postsecondary education commissioner Wednesday, ending a 20-month search.
Gilkey is scheduled to begin his job as the chief executive of higher education – working with the presidents of Rhode Island College and the Community College of Rhode Island – on Feb. 1, but he will continue to live in Kentucky until later this year, according to Tim DelGiudice, the chair of the state Council on Postsecondary Education.
