And across the country more beaches are closing. Officials are worried about scenes like this one at delawares Rehoboth Beach where three lifeguards have now tested positive. In california, bars shut down in seven counties including Los Angeles County where cases hit more than 100,000. And now the decision to close beaches there this fourth of july holiday. And in nearby riverside county, hospital icus are 99 full. In houston, paramedics working around the clock, crews suiting in ppe treating every call as a possible covid case. In the last couple of days weve doubled and tripled. Reporter field hospitals now being prepped in austin where theyve surpassed 70 hospital capacity. We shouldnt have launched the reopening until we had testing and tracing in a better place. We started too soon. A new report overnight says white house officials were aware of the intelligence more than a year ago raising the question did President Trump know about the alleged bounties, and what, if anything, was done to protect u. S. Forces . Abcs alex presha has details and reaction from capitol hill. Reporter this morning two new reports say President Trump was briefed on plots that accuse russia of offering bounties on u. S. Soldiers in afghanistan. The New York Times reporting american officials provided a written briefing in late february to President Trump laying out their conclusion. The Associated Press writing, top officials in the white house were aware in early 2019 of classified intelligence indicating russia was secretly offering bounties to the taliban for the deaths of americans and that assessment was included in at least one of the president s daily briefings. It goes on to say, National Security adviser john bolton also told colleagues he briefed trump on the matter in march of 2019. A military official confirms to abc news that russian agents were suspected of paying taliban militant bounties to target and kill American Service members in afghanistan. A source also says the intelligence was specific enough that the military and cia took steps to increase security and surveillance of russian operatives in afghanistan, and senior officials were briefed as well. But overnight National Security adviser Robert Obrien said the president had not been briefed because the information was not verified. The white house also making a similar claim. There were dissenting opinions within the intelligence community, and it would not be elevated to the president until it was verified. Unverified intelligence gets put in front of president s all the time. Its the nature of intelligence. Theres always going to be uncertainty. Doesnt mean its not important and it doesnt mean it shouldnt be seen by the president. Reporter the political fallout has been swift. In this case ignorance isnt exculpatory. Moving to other news now, police in jacksonville, florida, are trying to determine a motive for a deadly shooting outside an amazon warehouse. A man was gunned down while waiting to apply for a job. Police say two men jumped out of a car and opened fire targeting him directly. I came to amazon for my orientation, and the dude bumped me. The dude just bumped me out of the way. In aurora, colorado, three Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave amid allegations they were photographed reenacting a chokehold used on elijah mcclain. The 23yearold died after officers stopped him on the street because someone said he looked sketchy. They placed him in a chokehold and injected him with ketamine. The police chief said an investigation is under way over the new photos taken near the site where mcclain died. A tribute to mcclain was held last night in new york city park filled with the sounds of the instrument he loved to play, the violin. The officers involved in his death have not been charged. The Supreme Court has overturned a louisiana abortion law placing chief Justice John Roberts in the spotlight once again. The 54 decision strikes down a rule requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. Uld ha louisiana with only one clinic in the state. The former Police Officer confessed to 13 murders and other crimes in california during the 1970s and 80s. Some of his victims were in the sacramento ballroom where the hearing took place, they stood up and faced the man some call a reallife hannibal lecter. Deangelos former brotherinlaw said its all hard to comprehend. You dont think much of, and then later you find out hes this monster, evil person that is crazy, crazier than you could ever imagine. We turn now to covid19 and this question, should you wear a face shield instead of a mask to protect yourself . Earlier i spoke with dr. Alok patel. We also talked about safety at hotels this Holiday Weekend. We began with a new study on the rare syndrome linked to the coronavirus thats impacting children. New research is out this morning on that mystery syndrome linked to covid19 thats affecting children. Doctors are now reporting nearly 300 cases. One study finding 80 of the children required intensive care. What are we learning about the syndrome, and what dont we know . You know, 80 of these kids are winding up in the icu about two to four weeks after possibly getting covid19, so there is a suspicion that these two are linked. What we dont know is exactly why and unfortunately hoi widespread this could be as we see more cases around the country.
