Abc7 News Reporter reena roy has new developments now from washington. Reporter tonight the president speaking to the American People after being admitted to Walter Reed Medical Center as he battles covid19, saying he believes hell be back at the white house soon. I came here, wasnt feeling so well. I feel much better now. Were working hard to get me all the way back. You dont know over the next period of a few days, i guess thats the real test. So well be seeing what happens. Reporter the video message comes after confusion and questions over transparency about the president s condition. Reporter has he also experienced difficulty breathing . No, no, he has not. He never did. Reporter however, sources close to the president tell abc7 news he was in fact having difficulty breathing and received supplemental oxygen at the white house after his oxygen levels dropped. A source familiar with the president s health told reporters shortly after his vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning, and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We are still not on a clear path to a full recovery. Multiple news outlets now reporting it was white house chief of staff mark meadows who made those comments. Also, many questions about when trump was diagnosed. His doctor issuing a memo clarifying the timeline, saying he incorrectly used the term 72 hours in the News Conference earlier today when he meant day three, and 48 hours when he meant day 2. Many now focusing on this rose garden ceremony last saturday for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett as a potential super spreader event. Several in attendance confirmed positive, including chris christie, who was part of the president s debate prep team. The former new jersey governor announced this evening he checked himself into a hospital as a precautionary measure because of his history with asthma. Meantime, 77yearold former Vice President joe biden says he and his wife jill both tested negative. At a town hall tonight, when asked about the lack of ppe provided to essential workers by the trump administration, biden said he didnt want the attack the president amid his diagnosis, then said this. If thats not the president who is responsible, what the heck is his responsibility . They dont care much about anybody . Reporter reena roy, abc news, washington. And with that, abc7 News Reporter luz pena has insight now from ucsfs dr. Robert walker about how he is interpreting updates from the president s team and luz, we should mention dr. Walker has been critical of the president s handling of the pandemic. This is complex. Yes. And dr. Wachter hes his political views are not influencing his medical opinion. He points to the next ten days as vital to see how the president responds to the latest medicine. I came here, wasnt feeling so well. I feel much better now. Reporter reassuring words tonight from president donald trump. But dr. Robert wachter, chair of the department of medicine at ucsf says the president s health remains uncertain. We certainly see people that do this, and they come up a little bit, and the next day they crash. Reporter dr. Wachters biggest concern is that President Trump was allegedly given oxygen at the white house, indicating the virus may have affect his lungs. Reporter now that his oxygen level has fallen we know that he is at risk of bad case of covid pneumonia. The key is that his oxygen level is low. Sometimes people come to the Emergency Department and we sometimes slap on a little oxygen. Its not a big deal. Knowing he did get it because he actually needed it is very important. Reporter a diagnosis that of course uc hastings law professor could potentially change the president ial race. This could play either to his detriment with people who will be accusing him of downplaying the pandemic and sort of learning from his own mistakes, or he could ride on a wave of sympathy from behind and recover the problems with his current campaign. Reporter now exactly a month from the election, there is a question that lingers. If the 25th amendment is invoked, who will be on the ballot . What might happen is pence will take over the president ial duties temporarily. Reporter President Trump is 74 years old and is clinically overweight, two factors that place him under the high risk category for recovery. He is not out of the woods. If you take all people of his age and his situation at this point in the progression, you would have to say his chance of passing away from this is at least 10 . Reporter dr. Wachter also believes there is a chance that President Trump could be contagious after recovery. He is suggesting for the next president ial debate scheduled for october 15th to be remote, but well have to wait and see if anything does change. In the newsroom, luz pena, abc7 news. It is so complicated. Luz, many thanks to you. Can you believe that we are going to see a pattern change for the second half of the forecast. But in the near term, we are still tracking those gusty winds in the north bay overnight tonight with the red flag warnings and our issues with our air quality. They do continue for the second half of the weekend. Current conditions, youre looking at an air quality map. Its a mixed bag. And location is really key as to what type of air youre currently breathing. You can see from fairfield and especially into vacaville we have moderate to unhealthy air quality. The worst air qualit in california is in the Central Valley. You can see a lot of green dots close to the coast. We have a sea breeze and fog mixing in fresh air. Around the bay shoreline most areas are moderate air quality, meaning levels range between 51 and 100 right now. Tomorrow, though, and through tuesday, we have spare the air days expected as our air quality will continue to have smoke. Not only from the glass fire, but from fires burning across Northern California currently still in our atmosphere. So tomorrow the worst air quality will be in the north bay and in the east bay, where we will find unhealthy air quality at times. Monday and tuesday, we fluctuate between moderate and poor air quality. But by wednesday, we are expecting our winds to shift. More of an onshore breeze, meaning that wind is coming off of the ocean water, bringing fresh air that should keep our air quality in the moderate range by midweek. So were keeping our eye on that very closely. Here is live doppler 7 along with satellite. There you can sow some fog right up along the immediate coastline. Our marine layer tonight is pretty compressed. Were just thinking fog will remain close to the coast. Unfortunately, not much in the way of fog around the bay shoreline overnight tonight. Overnight tonight patchy fog along the coast. Otherwise still dealing with hazy skies overnight. Mid50s to low 60s, starting temperatures as we get into sunday. Sunday, hazy sunshine, a spare the air day. Not as hot as today, but it is still pretty warm inland. Were seeing high temperatures well into the 90s with fairfield, antioch. 92 for cloverdale. 80 for oakland. 74 the forecasted high for San Francisco. So still temperatures slightly above average for this time of the year. Here is the accuweather sevenday forecast. Show you whats happening over the next seven days. In the near term, its all about those hazy skies. Sunday, monday and tuesday spare the air days are in effect. Wednesday, our winds shift. Our temperatures drop. Better air to breathe. And then all eyes, dion, are on friday night into saturday. One week from today does look like a storm will move into Northern California, and it will bring us some light rain. Cnn Congressional Correspondent Sunlen Serfaty has more on how the gop is pushing forward. Republicans on the Committee Say it is full steam ahead. The republican senator, senator Lindsey Graham saying that he intends to have this areas as scheduled on october 12th. He says the two republicans on that Committee Senators lee and senator tillis, who are both suffering from covid, he says that they can participate remotely, even cast their vote by proxy in the committee. But this potentially turns into a much, much larger issue for republicans if and likely when her nomination moves on the committee to the floor of the u. S. Senate. And that is when senators have to actually show up to cast their vote for her nomination. And if these senators are still suffering from the effects of covid, that becomes an issue. Republicans have no margin for error, and they need their votes to get her nomination through. Now democrats are calling for the hearings to be delayed. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer says its irresponsible and dangerous for republicans to move forward with her nomination. All of this, though, of course underscoring and again shining such a bright spotlight on the fact that capitol hill does not have protocols in police to deal with the covid outbreak. There is no Testing Program in place. There is no contact tracing, no temperature checks upon entering the building. This is something that many member have been angry about in the months past, and certainly the anxiety is only heightened in the wake of these new diagnosis. It is so complicated that. That was Sunlen Serfaty reporting. Mitch mcconnell announced today that the full senate will not return until october 19th. This is a twoweek delay. Still, he vows to keep on schedule with confirmation hearing for Amy Coney Barrett. Democratic senators say if it is too dangerous for the senate to meet, it is too dangerous for the Judiciary Committee to meet as well. Twitter is banning tweets calling for the president to die of covid19. But some democratic congresswomen call the ban a double standard. Abc7 News Reporter liz kreutz explains how to make sure your vote is counted. Okay, lets talk about vote by mail. Youve probably heard those three words over and over again the past three months as politicians have voted the best way to vote during a pandemic. Spoil alert. Nothing is the best during a pandemic. But here in california, we do have a long history of voting by mail. So grab a notepad. Here whats you need to know to make sure you do it right and on time so that your vote is counted. First, you should know that every single registered voter in california will be sent a mailin ballot. Counties have to send it out by monday, october 5th. So expect to get your ballot some time in early october. If youre not registered to vote yet, you can easily do so online or by mail. The deadline is monday, october 19th. If you miss that date, you can still register and vote, but you have to do it in person at your countys registrar of Voters Office. Those ballots take a little longer to count. Which brings us to timing. With all this talk about delays in the post, we all want to know what is the best way to make sure our ballots are received and counted. The simplest answer is to send it in early. You can mail it in, no postage required, or you can bring to it a ballot dropbox, your county registrar of Voters Office or a nearby polling location. Some of those will begin opening in early october. You can also still vote in person. If you do so, it is recommended you bring your mailin ballot so you can swap it out. The most number one thing you have to do is sign it. A study found in at least three california counties, including santa clara and san mateo, young voters had their vote by mail ballots disqualified at three times the overall rates largely because they either sent it too late, didnt sign the ballot envelope, or their signature didnt match the one on file. 10 sign it and take the time to sign it correctly. Oh, and use a black or blue pen. Lots of info. We promise its simpler than it sounds. Good luck and happy voting. Remember, the official election day is tuesday, november 3rd. Now if you need a recap we have voter information at abc7news. Com, including how to register to vote. Yes, there is still time. And we break down the statewide propositions.
