This is a student led demonstration that began at mission high at 4 00 this afternoon. And they made their way a half mile from mission high and misdolores park to the Mission Substation at 17th and valencia. They have been out here for a while. They are loud. And they are at times applauding the Police Officers. We want to show you a piece of video my photographer shot a little while ago. It is of a San FranciscoPolice Officer taking a knee with the crowd here at 17th and valencia. It happened once again several more Police Officers who were also taking a knee and there was a huge uproar of applause from the crowd. T can see, they are chanting hands up dont shoot. It is a very loud and boisterous crowd, but very peaceful at this point, have not seen any problems from my vantage point. That said, there are a lot of boarded up businesses along valencia. Along 17th, 18th, 16th. Recall through the mission right now, with concerns of potential looting happening when the sun goes down. But there is that 8 00 p. M. Curfew here in the city and county of San Francisco. Liz, back to you. Reporter im kenny choi here in the mission next to Mission Dolores park. This group has left the park and Mission High School making its way west on 18th street. I talked to the organizers before this protest started. They say they are certainly aware that there could be extremist groups mixed within who have a different agenda, but they say they want this protest to be peaceful and they want their voices to be loud and heard. Organizers ready to protest and demaing a change in the policing justice system. The black people who built this for free, this wasnt built for them, it was built on top of their bodies. Reporter many in the Mission District with Small Businesses and a large Latino Community are worried about potential violence that could erupt. The organizers need to organize to have a team of people to weed out who they see as being creators of chaos. Reporter so, as you can see, people are making their way slowly toward soma. We hear that they are going to go to the hall of justice there and make their way back toward the Mission District. You can see the crowd and hear the crowd right behind me chanting black lives matter. They wan this to be peaceful. They say they are certainly aware that there is a curfew tonight. They sa that they are not going to direct the crowd if they choose to stay out here. We will have much more throughout the newscast. Im kenny choi live in the mission. The mayor tweeted that the curfew in San Francisco will end tomorrow morning at 5 00. She also said the protests that we have seen in the city and across the country are for an important cause, and the city will continue to facilitate any and all peaceful demonstrations. There is another protest underway in san ramon. A crowd of protesters gathered on the ground there. Our crew tells us more appear to be gathering at this hour. As a safety precaution, many businesses in the area boardedup glass windows. Community members expressed concerns over potential looting. The San Ramon Police department set up safety and Protection Measures along Bollinger Canyon road and north wedgewood road leading to the end of the protest route at city hall. Its supposed to be peaceful but people are saying looters are supposed to come from other cities and that they are planning to try to loot our stores. But i know as fars as San Ramon Community members, we have no intention of causing any damage. But just the protests. I think most of all, the community is really getting involved because right now, theres a lot of racial slurs that are being thrown around toward black people. And, as one of the only black people at my school, i feel like its really important that we raise awareness to this. All people are equal. Now as a safety precaution, the westbound lanes of bollinger will be closed for the duration of this protest. Vallejo police are now explaining how a night of chaos and violence ended with an officerinvolved shooting and a suspect killed. Happened in the Early Morning hours on tuesday, officers responded to multiple reports of looting. They confronted a group outside of a walgreens. They saw someone running toward a car and dropping to his knees. The chief says an officer saw what they thought was the i butt of a handgun. One officer fired his weapon five times percei a threat through the windshield, strikeing the suspect once. The weapon was later revealed to be a long 15inch hammer tucked into the pocket of the sweatshirt. 22yearold shawn monterosa of San Francisco was killed. His family working with civil rights attorney john burress. The violence has gotten so bad the last two nights, the National Guard has been called out to assist police. Now before 6 00 this morning, an officer on patrol heard shots near the corner of 57th avenue and harmon. The man was firing from a window. His wife managed to escape, but a sixyearold and an eight yearold were still inside. Behavior health and Mental Health officers were working to try to get him to surrender peacefully. And we are following a developing situation here. Chopper 5 over a large brush fire in sissoon city. We saul several homes along kellogg street fire, some of them destroyed. It has burned through a bit of the dry grass there. Fairfield Fire Department has been called in to help and people are being asked to please avoid this area.
