Now forced to relive a painful past and a grim warning of whats ahead. We still have months to go for fire season. Talking about chaotic Evacuations Homes destroyed and fire spreading unchecked but for 10s of thousands of people. Fire fatigue is setting in thank you for joining us at 5 oclock everybody im grant lotus and im tahernia and 4 vicki liviakis. Kelly tonight what is the situation out there how are things tonight. Well great ill tell you that the weather is definitely improving out here for firefighters in fact i am looking at blue sky, although im still see an occasional piece of ash floating in the air ive been driving along highway 12 east santa rosa today, ive seen a lot of blackened landscape while many homes, im seen have been spared. Theres still a lot of heartbreaking destruction out there. Parts of this landscape is still smoking in evidence with the fire burned through is everywhere from the charge shrubs of this median along highway 12 to the black and the grasses and trees in this orchard and on a small cul de sac that backs up to the orchard you can see where the fire demolished one home. Very little is left of 6029 molina glenn place just the brick pillars in the bones of the garage remains standing. One cars parked inside but its back windows are blown out inside the guts of the house are basically charcol and still smoking further out along highway 12 Sonoma Valley is hazy with smoke. Trees on the hillside now skeletons their foliage burned away. Some homes were spared here but a few like this one not far from richards road is barely recognizable all thats left is a pit of ash covered pipes and appliances burned down to the foundation in the community i found santa rosa firefighters just as they wrapped up tao seen whats left of 5964 stone bridge road again as they work to mop up fires that flare up again just coming back to the old structures have burned down the first night. And were making sure that theyre not rekindling because were finding that after a few things that have been kind of smoldering underneath race foundations and things like that are rekindling starting catch fire again and starting to cast members off into the other homes and into the landscaping so were just making sure that the houses are out. Putting more water just ensuring that. The remaining parts of the residences are safe. Now again the weather conditions have improved out here i spoke to fire officials who say the winds have shifted. Now these winds may pose a challenge for those on the napa side of the glass fire the napa county side of the glass glass fire but they expected to help improve firefighting conditions here on the Sonoma County side so much so that there are areas here in Sonoma County that were previously evacuated that are now beginning to repopulate reporting from santa rosa morning, kelly kron 4 news. Rays to flee at a moments notice and you can see just how close this is heres downtown santa rosa right here. The heart of the all courthouse buildings so on and just east of downtown is evacuation areas and there are a lot of homes here as you zoom in into these neighborhoods you can see individual lots and structures so this is a vast area. One other thing to point out on this map youll see these little icons here of a wheelchair icon, these are Health Care Facilities to spring lake village. Just off of a highway 12. This is an Evacuation Order will get more to this a little bit later but we want to go to the cal fire News Conference is now underway. Due to a napa county. And we structures threatened overall by the fires 10,277 homes. Today crews are working hard as you indicated with the wind coming off of the fire this morning. It direction yesterday and allowed those resources to go direct on fire and start that long laborious process of constructing containment lines that ultimately will be the lines that used to the priorities for today or a significant portion of line to be cut between gray pine trail and Bald Mountain and the sugarloaf state park as that line has hold because if it doesnt were going to have to fall back to. The oakville raid on the napa county side trinity road on the Sonoma County side. And we dont want to give up that much land and structures in those 2 control so that was our priority is our priority for today. Followed closely behind by road. On the other side of the fire to make sure that we dont lose the line that we have over there to keep the fire out of the greater Rincon Valley and sandra city of santa rosa area. As weather conditions change. We did get the National Guard helicopters came into the fire area today. Unfortunately the visibility on the west zone of the fire didnt support firefighting aircraft, but they were able to sortie on the east side of the fire. And their their main job is put out any hot spots a check around structures make sure that we dont have secondary missions. Many residents move forward. And it was looking good. It is burning in an er, but there are using the that trails and containment lines and work in through that area. I will say that were im being told and hopefully hopefully changes but what im being told as we will be having a red flag warning this week so wednesday and thursday were looking at 100 degree days. With some wind and low humidities. So its really important all of us that are out there to. Really make sure we pick up spots in clean everything up as much as we can before see more. He and when. And thats for entire thats going to get entire fire area weve got a lot of fire on the ground still. But theres a lot that can still earn we prepared for that and preparing for that theres Opening Statement one of the things go straight to you today was really Evacuation Orders to warning means. For mostly calistoga road. West so most of those folks are able to go home at this point under a warning. I will say there are some properties that still do not have power and pg e is is working on that as we speak. I did go close alamo stroll right outside the city loss and damage to infrastructure in terms of power poles and. Utility lines so theres a lot of work to be done on that front before we can even start thinking about let anybody get into some of these more remote areas, lots of crews up there working as was he. Taking down trees and and replacing poles and removing wire and things of that nature. The low calistoga road looks really well too. And so theres again theres hot spots all over. The sun comes out the smokeless a little bit and on top of that you get a little bit of land and we started seeing these hot and and landscaping in you know tracings and that were on fire one point there is a lot of work in and the senate they and thats really around the entire fire where theres equipment and theyre not actively fighting fire trying fire theyre trying to put down hot spots and create panel all thank you chief certainly good news but theres a long road to go so thank you for that update. Focus on to protect as they try to get hot spots out and really get some control this fire before wednesday and thursday when the temperatures are expected to go up again the humiditys down and the winds up said they want to get after it now we have to take a quick break when we come back coverage of the president ial debate. This is bidens first debate against a republican candidate. Since 2012 tonights debate taking place it Case Western Reserve University in cleveland ohio. Thats right thats where we find on bradley. Hes live on scene. As both candidates perfect prepare for the big night to month. So i was in grad good evening. The debate really unlike any other in history. The commission, president ial debates is doing everything it can to keep everyone here safe. There are only 80 people allowed inside to watch tonights debate with just about exactly 35 days left to go until election day the stakes tonight for the 2 candidates are enormous. The stage here at Case Western University is set for round one President Donald Trump versus democratic challenger joe biden the first president ial debate, im prepared to. Go out and make my case as to why i think hes failed im looking very forward to the but a writer Chris Wallace of fox news has chosen these topics for the 90 minute event. The trump and biden records the Supreme Court covid19 the economy race and violence and election integrity. A wild card tonight bombshell New York Times reporting about the president s taxes revealing vast write offs and hundreds of millions of dollars in debt coming due in a monday tweet President Trump dismissed the story. But the Biden Campaign is already trying to capitalize launching this digital ad. For its part President Trumps team is reviving attacks on the business dealings and bidens son hunter mister trump and mister biden had prepared for tonight in their own ways advisors to the president say he has done little in the way of formal preparation biden on the other hand has spent days out of sight studying with polls showing the former Vice President holding an advantage nationally tonight offers President Trump a chance to shake up the race. The city of cleveland is ready bracing for protests he were here protest a whats opinion understanding that is not on who the or the tonight barriers are up and the National Guard is standing by. On stage mister trump and mister biden will not be Wearing Masks and they will not shake hands. The first question goes to President Trump. Live in cleveland. To bradley. All right thank you for that report. Now on to our coronavirus coverage, good news for 2 bay area counties tonight as San Francisco and Contra Costa County are now moving into different covid19 tears said today, San Francisco moved into the orange or moderate here which now allows for more indoor businesses to open. With modifications that includes all indoor retail. Shopping centers like malls can open inside with modifications food courts can reopen with reduced capacity. Contra costa county has also moved into the red or substantial tier that is one better for them as well down from the most restrictive purple tier. As we switch gears now get a check on the 4 zone forecast of course tracking how those conditions are impacting the firefight in the north bay. Thats right about kron 4 chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow joining us now laurents you guys a favorable conditions for firefighters today as weve seen more of an on shore breeze and that was really just enough to change things for them and you can as that breeze kicked in coming out of the westsouthwest. And kunduz calm conditions parts of the times that some good news question is just how long that can last right now those winds moving 69 Miles Per Hour again coming out westsouthwest thats bringing that nice moist ocean air in that direction so slow down the spread of the fire but things are going to start shift gears maybe a little more, northerly component as we get Late Wednesday into thursday that will bring with it some hot temperatures to youre going to see that breeze continuing into the evening hours we take to the night tonight begin to see a things going call into early tomorrow morning which is great for firefighters there theyll see an influx of low clouds and the fog but then as we get late in the day tomorrow look at that little more northerly component in some parts of the north bay that will be a trend that takes us into thursday thats going to send the temperatures up around the bay area to so going to watching those temperatures move up a few degrees still staying hot inland were seeing a lot of this and this has been whats been a great factor in helping the firefighters is that influx in the low clouds and the fog of certainly seen a lot of it out there comes off in the afternoon watch a nighttime again getting near the saturation point even in santa rosa, almost a 100 relative humidity that is completely moyes that slows down the fire but thats going to change again as we get to wednesday into thursday little bit of an offshore wind humidity is really going to fall off probably 20 to 30 guys all right. Thank you laura as well as weve been reporting in the past 48 hours that glass fire ripped through. The napa valley parts of a destroyed dozens of buildings and damaging several historic weiners one of napa county landmarks kron fours dan kerman is live at castello di amorosa tonight. Which suffered a severe fire damage. Dan tell us how bad is is it. Well soon as we can tell you here along highway 29 you can see just how bad the smoke is that alone is not good for wineries wineries that have not only had to deal with covid for much of this year. But now having to deal with smoke from the fires and this winery. Finally was hit by the fire itself. What sets castello di amorosa apart from other wineries in the napa valley is that its built to resemble a 13 thcentury tuscan castle. But even these formidable watch towers could not stop the glass fire from racing across the valley monday morning and destroying the winerys farmhouse which is used as a warehouse obvious that they shun was down 70 during covid and then with the fire and the last 4 got down and not a 15 . So we were heavily a deep covid and then the fires that way now and then we get out and fight. Well they believe the tanks inside survived not so the line inside those tanks or the cases of line that went up in flames. I think it is around that 10,000 cases which is a 120,000 bottles. If you want to put a figure that i would say its around 4 to 5 Million Dollars luckily, the winerys Main Building tasting room and outdoor terrace survived. As well as its offsite warehouse, they make a living with people come to visit the castle, the castle would have been down we we would have no income for years to come. And so in a way we are lucky. Tuesday was a day of cleaning up and still the winemaking process continues 4050 of all the grapes are harvested but i have to say this is probably the most challenging year for one make in the last 50 years. And because the main part of the castle survived as well as that outdoor tasting room they are telling us that as soon as that Evac
