8,000 structures burned, most of them homes, and 42 people died in the fires. Fire crews have been working nonstop to extinguish the flames. They hope to reach full containment by october 25th, wednesday. The estimated damage caused by the fires is in the billions of dollars. More and more people are being allowed back into their neighborhoods to assess the damage, and today a portion of the evacuations were lifted for several neighborhoods. These air conditioners are about 20 years old. I had to replace them anyway, so [ laughter ] reporter two weeks after fleeing his house, bruce came back with fresh eyes and some humor. Its amazing to think of some of the things, i guess more like ceramic things that survive. Reporter when smoke filled the air, he and his life grab the dogged, but left Everything Else behind. It was a shock. We thought the house would be here. It wasnt here. Reporter his goal is to find a ring he gave his wife 20 years ago. He and his brothers think they found the right area. Another jewelry box . Okay. With the jewelry in it too. Reporter so theyre searching shovel by shovel. It would be worth finding it. Reporter hopeful it turns up. I hope the jewelry didnt just melt, but well see. Reporter sunday Church Services continued in santa rosa, but this time many came early and stayed late. I think the people were just excited to be together. That sense of community, that wantings to be back in relationship because theres so much social displacement. We saw people at the oxford inn or hotels, but many now are beginning to find the place, and some had to leave the community and go south and thats hard. It takes them that much further away from their family members, schools, neighborhood. Reporter santa rosa neighbors were told cleaning crews were likely to start cleaning out debris in january. The town of glen allen is among the hardest hit, and evacuation orders were lifted today for residents. Some found nothing left of their homes. Tonight a Community Rallied to help the victims. A fundraiser just ended. Reporter ken and julie, Bay Marin Community Church hosted this fundraiser tonight to help the victims recover. Tonight i met a family who is doing their best to move forward despite losing everything. I remember the first time we came and looked at this house and i thought oh my god to get to live here. Reporter the home sat atop a hill overlooking the sonoma valley. The 3,000 square foot home, a dream come true, destroyed in the wildfire. What makes this loss more devastating than just the loss of all of our family heirlooms and the place where they live, but they lost everything for my brother, and now theyre having to start over completely. Reporter her 75yearold parents and 41yearold disabled brother lived here. They evacuated as the fire ripped through, grabbing Important Documents and medications. Two weeks later is the first time theyve been able to return, salvaging what they could. Terrible. Any little thing i can recognize takes on incredible meaning. Reporter an example is the law mower shes had for six years. It barely works, untouched by the flames. But wedding dishes disintegrated as soon as she picked them up. Its devastating. I dont know how to process it. Reporter shes not alone. Many homes along highway 12 in the city are leveled. Many families are returning to rubble. 30 miles south. We wanted to help because this is, you know, this is local community, this is the bay area come together. Reporter the north Bay Community hosting a beer tasting fundraiser for wildfire relief. Many of the attendees didnt know the fire victims, but wanted to do something to help. Ive never seen anything like this before, people coming together around a crisis. Reporter this family is temporarily saying with family, and theyre determined to rebuild the home back to its original beauty. I love the sonoma valley. This place is so special to so many of us, and i want to rebuild to try and bring it back. Reporter and that family is working with their insurance company. They know it will be a long journey ahead. As for this fundraiser, they tell me they raised 5,000 tonight and that money will go toward the Sonoma Resilience Fund to help victims for long term care. Its nice to hear the family wants the rebuild their home there. What about other families you talked with tonight . Do a lot of people say they also want to rebuild . Reporter to be perfectly honest a lot of families we encountered tonight were just trying to process what happened to their homes. It was the first time for them to go back. This family was the first family willing to talk to us and tell us how theyre feeling, so i think a lot of people are still trying to cope with what happened. Such a devastating loss for so many people. Thank you. K you. Fire officials said today they expect a wildfire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains to be fully contained by tuesday. The bear fire is now 79 percent contained. 9 firefighters were injured while battling the fire in steep and rugged terrain. Evacuation orders remain in effect tonight around Boulder Creek where the fire started. New at 10 00 tonight, dozens of protesters were handcuffed and escorted out of a poultry Processing Plant today. Direct action everywhere entered stable life poultry this afternoon demanding the release of the animals there. During todays sit in demonstrators cited the california animal cruelty law, asking the city to seize the animals and shut down the facility. They say secret camera footage shows the animals in crowded canings denied food and water. And were learning more about an officer involved shooting involving Livermore Police near the airport. An officer on patrol noticed what was described as a suspicious vehicle that turned out was stolen last thursday. There was a woman inside the car. Other police were called to the scene. The woman refused to get out of the car and then started the car and drove into two patrol cars. An officer shot the woman who was taken to the hospital, but isnt considered seriously hurt. In 2016 House Republicans sued the Obama Administration over the payments. A judge actually sided with them and said they were illegal because congress had not set aside the money, but an appeal was filed by the Obama Administration, and the payments continued. A week and a half ago the white house announced their plan to end csr payments to insurance companies. One day later 18 states and the District Of Columbia sued the administration claiming the payments are required by law. Csr payments were set to go out friday october 20th. Reporter and three suspects in custody after a homicide at a fremont hotel. Police now looking for answers. From Fremont Police are investigating their first homicide of 2017 at the Extended Stay Hotel, and tonight three suspects are in custody in connection to that crime. We spoke to police a short time ago, and heres the latest live from fremont. Reporter good evening, Police Continue to interview the three suspects. No word on where they were found and picked up this afternoon, but right now police trying to determine the motive for the murder and what the connection is with the parties involved. Now this is the first homicide in fremont since september of 2015, and this hotel by the way was fully booked, mainly with out of town contractors, and many people we spoke with this afternoon were visibly nervous. As the murder mystery played out at the Extended Stay Hotel in fremont, hotel guests were left looking for answers. I think it was one separate room, but if that was the case, they cleaned it up really well because i went down there around 1 00, and you couldnt tell. Reporter only using his first name, robby, a contractor from out of state said the he tell released Hotel ReleasedLittle Information after a shooting victim wandered into the lobby and someone called 911. Multiple officers responded, located the victim, confirmed the victim had a gunshot wound and began immediate medical attention on the victim. The victim was transported to a local trauma center, unfortunately the victim did end up succumbing to his injuries. Reporter police wouldnt release the victims name, but after working the crime scene for much of the day released this tweet late sunday confirming that three suspects believed to be responsible for the crime were taken into custody. They say the incident was isolated, and the victim knew the shooters. There was some short of relationship, not Domestic Violence related, but a relationship between the people, they knew each other meaning the suspect and the victim. Reporter hotel guest steven cooker said he heard very little and told ktvu fox 2 news the incident started on the second floor. Its impressive the guy made it to the lobby, so must have been trying to find help or something. The hotel room was actually considered part of crime scene, so were still trying to determine exactly the role the room played, but theres a connection to the victim and a room at the hotel. Theyre also looking over Surveillance Video and also stressing that this was an isolated incident and the community was never in danger. Witnesses told investigators the truck veered off southbound interstate 680 around 7 00 this morning. The truck traveled through a ditch and struck a tree head on before nowing right through a plowing right through a chain link fence ending up in the north bound direction of the boulevard. Chp is investigating. An Early Morning collision is always something to look into. Well look at what time he started last night, where hes coming from, where hes going, and look at all these factors. The truck driver died at the scene. His identity still hasnt been released, but the chp says he was a man in his 60s delivering packages as a contract worker for the u. S. Postal service. San Francisco Police are searching for two suspects in a shooting in the citys Pacific Heights neighborhood. It happened shortly before 9 00 last night at the intersection of clay and laguna street. The victim was behind the wheel of a car when he was shot in an attempted robbery. The victim is expected to survive. We were dont know the victims we dont know the victims identity or have suspect descriptions. There was an uber sticker on the victims car, but they dont know if he was an uber driver. And police in danville are searching for a hit and run driver that struck two cyclists on diablo road. Authorities say an suv hit the cyclist and then stopped but moments later took off. The vehicle is described as a silver compact suv, possibly a ford escape. The two victims were rushed to local hospitals with one of them being air lifted. The Highway Patrol reports both of victims are expected to survive. The people that ride bikes in the area say theres very little space between cars on the road and cyclists going down the side of the road. A bay area woman survived not one but two back to back tragedies. The woman survived the Las Vegas Shooting rampage, and days later returned home to santa rosa where she lost her family home in the wildfires. Reporter the Flight Attendant happened to be in las vegas october 1st when a shooter opened fire on a concert crowd killing 58 people. She was there listening to the music when she heard one round of gun fire, then another. It wasnt actually until the second round that people were running out of the venue screaming shooter, and i turned and ran. Reporter she hid in a Hotel Conference room until the commotion died down. She said she was still shaking hours later. All i could think is i need to go home. Reporter home is santa rosa. As i was driving home, i saw the glow over the ridge. Reporter she made it back in time to help her parents and dog evacuate from the wildfires, but despite their best efforts, their house could not be saved. As a former firefighter she says shes seen a lot of tragedy, but nothing quite like this. You wake up and know theres more evacuations and fires going. It was like okay, this needs to stop, i can only take so much. Reporter through it all shes done her best she says to hold it together. I still have to function. I cant go off in a corner and flip out or cry or whatever. Thing need to be done. Reporter she and her family spent a few days at an Evacuation Center and now are in a new rental sleeping on donated air mattresses. She says the month feels like a nightmare that simply wont end. I have no idea when it will feel better. Reporter she lost everything, including her uniform and luggage she needs for work. In oakland, ktvu fox 2 news. Reporter lilly visited the Hanger Clinic in San Francisco friday to see if her new legs fit. They do. I can walk now, i can do everything by myself. I can run and i can do everything. Reporter up until about two weeing as lilly weeks ago, lilly and her mom lived in santa rosa, they escaped the late night fire storm by car. I couldnt believe like fire balls were coming at us, and i was super scared. I couldnt even believe like how scared i was. Very blessed when we did actually see a Police Officer directing us another direction. I knew i got down the hill quickly and it was safe. Reporter this is what their house looks like now. Among the rubble are lillys prosthetic legs. Wow, everything that is gone. My wheelchair, my prosthetics, everything. I couldnt even believe, like, i seriously have no words. Reporter but words have not failed lilly as much as her body has. She has a congenital condition where her joints wont bend from the age down. At the age of 6 she decided to be both legs amputated, where prothetics, rather than keep her legs and be wheelchair bound. Her legs are part of her identity. Reporter she rides horses, runs track, and even has a doll complete with prosthetics. But the fire took her legs and some of her spirit until Hanger Clinic came in to make her new legs for free. To see the smile back on her face, its priceless. Reporter the difference in lilly between having legs and not having them can only be measured in light years. I dont feel that confident anymore, but when i get my legs i get it back like immediately. Reporter and it seems like you have your confidence back now. Yes, i do. Im super excited.
