8,000 structures burned, most of them homes, and 42 people died in the fires. Fire crews have been working nonstop to extinguish the flames. They hope to reach full containment by october 25th, wednesday. The estimated damage caused by the fires is in the billions of dollars. More and more people are being allowed back into their neighborhoods to assess the damage, and today a portion of the evacuations were lifted for several neighborhoods. These air conditioners are about 20 years old. I had to replace them anyway, so [ laughter ] reporter two weeks after fleeing his house, bruce came back with fresh eyes and some humor. Its amazing to think of some of the things, i guess more like ceramic things that survive. Reporter when smoke filled the air, he and his life grab the dogged, but left Everything Else behind.
