San francisco right now 48 degrees. Then you get into the valley, 32, santa rosa. Freezing start to your day with a little fog reported near the airport this morning. 36 in oakland. 36 in livermore. San jose checking in at 42. Temperatures are down for most by a degree or two. Visibility looking good for most. Then as we get into the north bay, were seeing it develop and it clears up and redevelops. Santa rosa right now down about a quarter mile. You can see the dark shade of gray stretching over to the west there. Highway 101, visibility down to three or four miles. You may come across the patchy dense fog. It is more dangerous because it is clear and then a wall of fog, with little warning. Santa rosa, again, off to a very cold start. Through the 10 00, 11 00, still a chill in the air but feeling better. By lunchtime, low 50s there. We top out at 59, 60 degrees or so in the 3 00, 4 00 hour, before we cool off at 5 00. Chp officers from all over the bay area are coming to the bay area to show their support after a deadly crash on Christmas Eve involving one of their own. An alleged drunk driver crashed into the back of his patrol car. Candice nguyen is in hayward with details on what led up to the crash. Candice. Reporter yeah. We are learning more details about the funeral for the late officer. The chief is here with officers all over the bay area and stayed to help in this all hands on deck situation. The chp says that the officer chose to work on Christmas Eve when his patrol car was hit from behind by an alleged drunk driver. They will start organizing funeral plans. Since it was christmas yesterday, they could not. The arrangements will begin today. Around 11 45 chris has ma eve, he and another officer were pulled over conducting a routine holiday patrol when a 22yearold man crashed into their car allegedly. The suspect is accused of being high and drunk at the time. The impact was so long that it struck the side of the chp officer into a compact car. The officer leaves behind a wife and three children. Children were expecting their father to come home and help open Christmas Presents. Instead he chose to work today. Reporter the chp says that the officers names will join the other officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Candice, thank you for that update. It is 7 04 now. Starting new years day, bars, restaurants and companies that produce alcohol can now help people who have had too much to drink get home. They can offer vouchers for free. Current law does not allow any business with an alcohol license to offer customers anything except what is considered of inconsequential value. A San Rafael Group says it will promote and encourage heavy drinking and says the law does not forbid the vouchers to be used somewhere else to drink more. Deputies shot a man suspected of Domestic Violence. It happened shortly before 2 00 monday morning at a home on princeton street in hayward. Someone called to report a Domestic Violence incident. At the scene, a woman was found who said she had been assaulted by her husband. When deputies found the man on the rear patio of a home, he took a machete from his waistband and tried to attack them. Went deputy shot the suspect who was taken no the hospital and expected was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Crews responded to reports of a fire at a onestory apartment on russell avenue near highway 101. It happened around 6 15. They were able to get the fire out quickly. But it did cause about 25,000 in damage. The woman who lived in the apartment wasnt home at the time but arrived just as those fire crews were finishing up. They say the fire started in her bathroom. No injuries though were reported. An Investigation Continues this morning into a Christmas Day house fire in San Francisco. It was first reported shortly before 1 00 a. M. On monday. On prospect avenue, in the burrell heights neighborhood. Four people were displaced. Firefighters were at the scene within minutes and managed to get everyone out of the burning home safely. But the fire caused major damage, including to the neighboring homes on either side of the house. Red cross now helping some of those people out. Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of that fire. Well, former California Attorney general bill lockyer used to enforce laws against drugs. Now he will be distributing cannabis.
