Reporter well julian and frank, we are now six hours after the fire started right behind you. You can see they are in the mop up stages right now. And the ems truck still on standby. And they still extended here as we could tell you the details of what happened here sound chilling as they start trickling the captain and the Fire Department when they said they were called here about this fire they were also told there was a man inside one of the burning businesses with a gun. At 5 30 on sunday evening, san joses firefighters rushed to a force of a blaze that broke out inside a business on santa collar are streets between first and Second Streets. I saw them flying through like okay, something bad happened. Reporter several fire engines and dozens of firefighters could be seen on front of them in neighboring businesses. Adult super stores. And all the commotion will be taking place here attracting members of the community and all curious as to what started the fire at these two businesses. Radio traffic during the effort to put out the flames appears to signal that at least one firefighter was injured. We also saw several ems vehicles at the scene. The severity of the firefighters injuries are not yet known. Santa clara street is the main thoroughfare that will run through downtown san jose. Blocked with fire trucks that meant the pedestrians and the vehicles had to buy an alternative way around. And they had to get on the bus and that way and now they need to try to get that routine to get to the next bus stop. The circumstances surrounding how the fire started remains unclear. Weve reached out to the san jose Fire Department for more details and have yet to hear back. Still speculations as to how this all happened is all the talk around here like what this man said he heard from others in the area. And people were telling me about that little pub right there that caught on fire and someone had a gun inside that liquor store and went back into the building. Reporter i did see a couple of people out there. It looked like they were up to something, but thats the best that i could see and it looked like they were up to something. And pg e has also been out here on the scene during the duration of the fire fight. Also a fire arson investigator here. And while we have been unable to speak to officials about what happened here, we are hearing that the man who owned or worked at the adult bookstore set the fire and then barricaded himself inside of that business and still looking to get confirmation on that information right now. Authorities identified that man who died as 24yearold kelly blake of Discovery Bay. Family members tell us she was a wonderful young woman who Just Graduated College and was starting a career in the beauty industry. And Close Friends describe her as a bright and light hearted soul who had a lot of friends and made new friends everywhere she went. The crash happened last night just east of Discovery Bay near ski beach. Ktvu Leigh Martinez talked to investigators today who are still trying to figure out what caused the crash. Reporter this is video from the San Joaquin Sheriffs Office of its Crime Scene Investigation in the delta. At 7 15 p. M. Saturday two boats collided near ski beach. We dont know how these two boats collided in the water. We dont know who is at fault and we dont know who hit who. Reporter but the impact was so severe. Five people on board this boat suffered injuries and one woman died. Shes been identified as 24 yearold kelly blake. The second boat in the collision left the scene, but called in the accident. The boat left. It was involved in the collision, however they maintained contact with our office. And they called us and they said they needed to seek medical attention for boaters on that boat. Reporter its unphone how many victims were on the second boat, but they believe they received medical treatment in contra costa county. And news of the crash serve as a reminder to boaters to be vigilant. Especially when we heard it was over by ski beach. That location has a reputation of being a party place. And so the first thing when you hear Something Like this was alcohol involved . We dont know right now if alcohol is a factor or if speed is a factor, but all being looked into. And detectives are still conducting interviews with the survivors and the occupants of the other boat and no word yet if there will be any criminal charges in this case and the detectives say this is a reminder for everyone out here on the delta to stay vigilant and to know your surroundings and go slow and always have life jackets for everyone on board and if you are the driver of the boat, make sure that youre sober. And the firefighters responded to the station and pulled that man to safety and the station was shut down for 45 minutes. Now they said the man injured his legs, taken to the Trauma Center in Critical Condition and so far his names havent been released. They had said the man bypassed the road closure this morning and thatled to the highspeed chase, which ultimately shut down highway 101 near geyserville. Officers say the 56yearold drove around a road closure on the southbound lanes and sped away. Now chp said the chase ended when he drove over the spike strip that officers had placed near windsor. They then deployed gas and a stun grenade after they said he refused to surrender and now in custody facing charges of evading police dui and resisting arrest. The standoff led to major backups on 101 if both directions and the highway was finally reopened three hours later at 9 30 this morning. If the ban is approved by the state Public Health officials, new york would become the second state in the country to ban flavored ecigarettes, implementing a similar ban early this morning. All comes amid the rash of mysterious vaping lung illnesses that sent hundreds of people to the hospital and left six people dead. Students and teachers at the Public School would learn how to save lives. Starting tomorrow the agencies will distribute 600 stop the bleed kits to classrooms. The bill would push back School Start Times for middle schools and high schools. Doctors say it could have several health benefits. And time to get more sleep, yes. And more energy for me. Reporter senate bill 328 would require middle schools to start no earlier than 8 00 a. M. High schools, no earlier than 8 30. Some doctors say a later start will help students grades and health. And those students who start school have decreased rates of depression and higher test scores, Car Accidents in the community because they are driving less drowsy. Reporter and dr. Dean blumberg says the High School Students need nine hours of sleep a night and says 90 are getting it. And not getting enough sleep will result in them being sleeping, not able to learn as much. Opponents of the bill say delaying the school day could mean that they would stay up later. He says that is not likely the case. But it turns out they dont. They still go to sleep at the same time and they done up getting more sleep. And Leticia Williams son is only in second grade and already thinking about her future supporting a later start. And earlier than8 00 a. M. And that they will kind of hinder them on the day and into this month. And if that bill is signed into law that there needs to be a balance. Starting schools too late could be tough on parents. What will they do . And that daycare cost and that it will be another potential thing that they will have every single mother and that they will need to go to daycare before school. And a similar bill by the former governor last year and at the time he said that it shouldnt be up to the state to decide when the school day will begin. The governor has until october 13 to make a decision.
