All right. Thank you, sal. A woman walking along lake merritt was caught in the crossfire. Police say she was hit by a stray bullet monday afternoon and taken to the hospital in Critical Condition. Everett Alex Alexander points to the spot where a woman was shot while walking on the path along lake merritt in oakland. He says he looked out his balcony after he heard dozens of shots fired. Shortly before 1230 monday afternoon. It was scary, you know, because you dont know whats going on and you dont know where the bullets are flying. Police have confirmed that the victim is an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. A bicyclist tells me multiple witnesses saw a gun battle between two groups on Lakeside Drive near the intersection of madison street. There were a couple of cars like two white lexuses. The guys were hanging out the windows, shooting, shooting at each other , you know, point blank range. They went on and on and on for whatever 10 or 15 seconds. These people didnt know that the danger was past, but they were willing to put themselves at risk to help this innocent woman. Neighbors tell me First Responders arrived quickly and police say the victim is in Critical Condition. They did not release descriptions of the suspects or vehicles involved in oakland. It happened early sunday morning just before 330 in the morning near the intersection of winchester boulevard and walgrove way just south of interstate 280. Police say the teenager was driving a stolen suv that went off the road and hit and killed the man who was walking on the sidewalk. This was san joses 19th pedestrian death. So far this year, a landmark in the east bay for hikers that was vandalized and missing. Has now been recovered. The sculpture known as the Mission Peak Pole, is in fremont and sits on top of the hiking area of mission peak. Last night, the park staff said the top portion of the pole that had been sawed off has been found. The vandalism outraged many of the people who regularly hike the three miles to the top of mission peak. Its metal. So someone had cut it with a metal cutter so youd have to be crazy to hike that much and then do it. So i just dont understand,e has been a popular spot for hikers and joggers to take photos. Park officials still have not said where or when the vandalized pole was recovered. Time is 404 in palo alto. The power is back on for the 1300 people who lost power yesterday afternoon. The city of palo alto utilities says you severely damaged equipment had to be replaced. The power went out around 1 p. M. The outage lasted for hours. And for some of the customers, the power wasnt restored until the middle of the night. We still dont know the exact cause of the power outage and how the equipment was damaged. San francisco supervisor connie chan is pushing to get the citys emergency sirens working again in the wake of last months devastating wildfires on maui. Chan, who represents the richmond district, says she plans to send a letter of inquiry to the department of emergency management. Shes demanding a timeline of the sirens restoration process, which began four years ago. Chan also plans to introduce legislation aimed at improving fire safety in part by strengthening the inspection process. It is now 405 in nevada. The japanese bilingual bi Cultural Program in the San Francisco Unified School District is marking 50 years today. Back in 1973, the program at Rosa Parks Elementary School began with three kindergarten through second grade classes. The school is now cobb Elementary School, and the Signature Program is unique model, and its anchored by native japanese speaking sensei. The program has educated thousands of Public School students offering a curriculum shaped by and anchored in the japanese and japanese American Experience and community. This after republican and democratic lawmakers remain divided on this issue. A Bipartisan Group of lawmakers tried to pass senate bill 44 earlier this year. It would require judges to warn fentanyl drug dealers that they could be charged with murder if they dealt drugs. That ended in someones death. Now, back in april, the senate and the state Assembly Public safety committees blocked act sb 44 a critics against the bill promised to put together a special group to focus on fentanyl. But so far, nothing has happened. Senator brian jones sent a letter to the leader of the Senate Pro Tem tony atkins, asking the reason why were running out of time. So that was the purpose of the letter, is whats going on with the fentanyl group working group. Whos in it when are they meeting . Has expanded a Pilot Program that allows drivers to obtain a digital drivers license or id card. And now the department is calling it an mdl short for mobile drivers license. People who want to participate in the program need to scan their license or id on the california dmv wallet app. Participation is limited to the first 1. 5 Million People who sign up. It is important to note, though, you should still carry a physical drivers license when flying or driving out of state. Well, a covid era Eviction Moratorium in berkeley has finally ended. The ban was lifted friday after three years birx lee was the last in Alameda County to end that Eviction Moratorium. And there information shows Alameda County saw an increase, a spike in evictions when eviction protections ended. Oakland based union actor Michael Summer says he hopes Screen Actors Guild negotiators will stand firm in their talks with producers in hollywood. Were saying that it we are like you and if we dont get a fair contract, you know, beware, maybe you might not get a fair contract next writer. Since july, union actors have been on strike over the use of Ai Technology with their images and how theyll be paid for future use. And i was like, wait, i have a show running on netflix and i and i havent been paid since 2001. Thats never happened before to me where something is running and i get nothing. Maybe its been a small paycheck, but get something. Writers in hollywood also went on strike in may, and now new development and promotion of content has been brought to a halt. Its the first time in 60 years that both writers and actors have been on strike. One unions struggles affect the others and basically we come together realizing this is a Pivotal Moment with all the things that are happening with the different technologies that are around. Producers say theyve offered to double minimum pay wages for actors and to get permission before duplicating their images with ai. But some actors say that its not enough. If you come down to the same principle, lets pay us on a basis of how much money is generated. The Milken Institute says that back in 2007, during the writers strike, that the state lost about 2 billion. A Southern California couple that owns an Auto Detailing shop in the San Fernando Valley are praising the daca program for letting them start a new life in america. Juan carlos and his wife Cynthia Jimenez are from mexico. They were allowed to stay in Southern California because of the daca program that allows undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children to live and work legally in the us. They started an Auto Detailing business which is now thriving. I like working. I like working out in the outdoors. Um you know, were not in like, a cramped space in an office. The couple now Services Dozens of cars every day, and they are expanding their staff to better handle their growing number of customers. Our time now. 418.
