View Comments The Lafayette Parish School System will provide free school meals for all students through the 2021-2022 school year, which begins Aug. 12. Regardless of income eligibility, access to free breakfast and lunch will be available at all LPSS school sites, district officials announced Wednesday. This is possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which has implemented certain waivers of federal regulations that will allow Child Nutrition Programs to operate under guidelines that will provide free meals to all students, according to a release. Other free meal options continuing this year include snacks for after-school care and tutoring programs, weekend meal distribution at four LPSS school sites, and participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program at three school sites.
