June 29, 2021 If the bill passes the Senate, it will force the removal of ten Confederate statues currently on display at the U.S. Capitol. SHOW TRANSCRIPT For the second straight year, House Democrats are pushing to remove confederate statues in the U.S. Capitol, along with the bust of Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney, who infamously wrote the 1857 ‘Dred Scott’ decision upholding slavery in the United States. Most of the statues are still standing after the Republican-controlled Senate blocked the measure last year. Then-Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, (R-KY), said the move would be a “bridge too far” and an attempt to “airbrush” history.
