Print article If you are feeling a bit schizophrenic right now, we are in the same boat. You will get to read Frank Murkowski’s opinion (Feb. 21) about what is wrong with the Republican Party. And his “big tent” idea that suggests that Republicans who feel conflicted should keep the debate inside the tent will not solve the problem. If you are of the conservative bent, as am I, you will know the Republican Party is no longer a conservative political entity that stands for truth and justice for all. I remember when Sen. Ted Stevens and Sen. Dan Inouye were good friends. One was a Republican and one was a Democrat. They respected each other. And, if the story is correct, when confronted with a vote that they disagreed on, they chose to abstain, knowing that had they voted the result would be the same. They listened to each other’s arguments, and I would like to think that they learned a new perspective.
