17/17 In some segments, SUVs outsell the similarly sized passenger cars at a rate of five to one. The idea that a sedan or wagon makes for the perfect family car is now a distant memory. In fact, just 17 per cent of all passenger cars sold are medium, large and upper large sized. Due to dwindling interest, many long-standing nameplates associated with those segments have been retired. Think Maxima, Liberty, Aurion, 380, Commodore, Falcon – to name a few. What emerged as a result is a sea of SUVs: some sporty, some genuinely good off-road, and others nothing more than a replacement for sedans of old. Another byproduct is that you, as a buyer, have never had such a diverse product portfolio to choose from.
