April 26, 2021 The City of Valdez Municipal Election is May 4th, 2021 KVAK Radio asked the candidates running for Mayor to tell us about themselves and share their thoughts on several questions. (Three year term) Clay Strickland Brief Biography: I was born in Valdez Alaska, graduated high school in Northern Michigan and went to two years of college there before being accepted into the UAF geology undergraduate program. I had financial difficulties as most 21 year olds do and started welding at Fairbanks Welding and Fabrication on Van Horn Rd. I later joined the Laborers Local 341 and began working for Ahtna Construction in the summer of 2001. I am a Second generation Pipeline Hand. I have been a member of Local 341 for over 20 years. I worked for four seasons as a Professional Geoscientist for Avalon Development Corporation in Fox Alaska. I have spent over a year sleeping in a tent in the Alaskan Wilderness looking for Precious Minerals for our clients and have assisted finding over 20 million ounces of minable gold. I have worked in commercial shrimping and fishing industries in Prince William Sound. In between Jobs I have always kept busy, I worked for five different companies while building the new hospital, helped build the Coast Guard Armory, garage at the Coast Guard Housing and the Communication Building on Civic Center Hill.
