Lorna Hart | Courtesy photo Vicki Griffin read the poem, “In Flanders Fields” written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae during World War I after the death of his friend and fellow soldier. The poem reflects on the red poppies that grew over the graves of fallen soldiers in Belgium and France, and has resulted in their becoming a symbol for those who have died in combat.
