Winter system brings snow and ice to New York area By FOX 5 NY Staff Published NWS radar screenshot NEW YORK - A winter weather system dropped more snow and freezing rain on the New York metropolitan area on Tuesday. This snowfall was modest compared to the snowstorm that hit the area last week. But snow and freezing rain are creating hazardous conditions on the roads. Forecasts indicated that areas north and west of New York City could get up to 6 inches but those accumulations haven't been reported as of Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service on Monday issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties in northeast New Jersey, southern Connecticut, and southeast New York for Tuesday but later canceled it.
