ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Pueblo Revolt of 1680 kick-started the nationwide Red Power movement 340 years ago.
While it’s easy to trace the struggle for Native American rights to the turbulence of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, an online Albuquerque Museum exhibit draws a direct line from that historic New Mexico uprising to more recent protests over the 2016 Dakota Access Pipeline.
“Seven Generations of Red Power in New Mexico” will be online at cabq.gov/seven-generations for nine months. Originally planned as an in-house exhibition, curators moved it online due to the pandemic.
